Biography
Sakis Mantalaris is currently the Don Panoz Chair at the School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences at Trinity College Dublin as well as Principal Investigator at the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research & Training. Prior, he was Professor in the W.H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (2018-2023), USA and Professor of Biosystems Engineering at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (2000-2018).
Research Interests
Prof Mantalaris’ research philosophy emphasises inter-disciplinary research with a focus on applied bioprocessing that bridges science, engineering, and medicine. Specific research areas are a) metabolism-driven, precision bioprocessing of cellular therapeutics; b) stem cell bioprocessing; c) mammalian cell bioprocessing for the production of high value biologics with an emphasis of modelling; d) modelling for Personalized Leukemia Treatment Selection and Optimization e) modelling of microbial systems for waste water applications; and f) creating a genetically modified microorganism for the production of bacterial cellulose.
